‘Fixin’ To Die’ Forever

Bukka White’s ‘Fixin’ To Die’ has been a staple in both Col. Bruce Hampton and Widespread Panic’s setlists for many years. Indeed, in a interview with Contributing Editor Mike Greenhaus Hampton said, ‘There are 4 songs I’ve done for about 600 years and I’ve never stopped doing, like ‘Fixin’ to Die.’ Widespread Panic has also covered the song since 1990, often with the aid of Hampton on vocals. Saturday was such an instance as Hampton joined Widespread Panic onstage at Knoxville, TN’s Civic Coliseum for a take on ‘Fixin’ to Die’ two songs into the group’s second set. Hampton last took the reins on the popular song—-which Bob Dylan also covered on his self-titled debut—-with Widespread Panic on June 12 in Bonnaroo this June. After a day off last night, Widespread Panic will return to the stage tonight at Clemson, SC’s Little John Coliseum.
