Earlier this month, when a fire alarm caused the String Cheese Incident to cut short its Ithaca, NY performance, Bill Nershi responded by playing a pair of acoustic songs for fans in the venue’s parking lot. Saturday the members of the String Cheese Incident once again played for the people, this time in the lobby of Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. Following their performance at the Fabulous Fox, Nershi, Michael Kang and Jason Hann ran through a number of acoustic selections, including ‘Lonesome Fiddle Blues,’ ‘Stay Thru,’ ‘I Saw the Light,’ ‘Redemption Song,’ ‘Elvis’ Wild Ride’ and ‘I Know You Rider,’ as fans exited the theater.
Earlier the same day, String Cheese Incident also invited a pair of well known guests onstage during its set proper. Former Headhunter/world renown percussionist Bill Summers and keyboardist Davell Crawford helped close out the groups first set with a cover of Randy Newsman’s ‘Louisiana 1927’ and ‘Aiko Aiko.’ Summer returned at the end of String Cheese Incidents second set for a drum-heavy version of ‘Round the Wheel’ and, alongside Crawford, for the encore of Billy Preston’s ‘Will it Go ‘Round in Circles.’ A Crawford-bolstered version of ‘San Jose’ closed out the announced portion String Cheese Incident’s show.
Summers first entered the String Cheese world a few years back when keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth linked up with his Prescription Renewal Tour. The String Cheese Incident will perform Saturday as part of Las Vegas’ Vegoose festival.
