Pnuma-rous Conspirator Collaborations
Since busting out at Camp Bisco this August, Memphis-based electronic trio Pnuma has generated a cross-country buzz, earning a New Groove nod along the way. Over the weekend, the trio linked up with Disco Biscuits both past and present while opening two-dates on Conspirator’s fall tour. On Friday, Pnuma drummer Lane Shaw emerged during Conspirator’s set at Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live for an electronic jam which reportedly stretched past the 35-minute mark. A night later, Shaw returned alongside keyboardist Ben Hazlegrove at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, kicking off a string of collaborations which took Conspirator until 2 AM. RANA’s Scott Metzger, who moonlights with Marc Brownstein and Aron Manger in Flying Circus, also sat in twice during Conspirator’s set including a segment with the abovementioned pair of Pnuma performers. Sam Altman also made his first public appearance since officially leaving the Disco Biscuits, covering Conspirator’s drum parts alongside DJ Omen for several original numbers.
Conspirator is currently off the road while Brownstein and Magner regroup the Disco Biscuits for a series of November and December performances. Pnuma performs tonight at Knoxville, TN’s Barley’s Taproom, while Metzger will curate his third Greetings From Metzgerville show at New York’s Knitting Factory this Wednesday. In addition to bassist Justin Wallace (ulu) and vibes master Kevin Kendricks (Fat Mama), this week lineup’s will also include Deep Banana Blackout drummer Eric Kalb.
