A year after parting ways with Houseman, Galactic is still figuring out new ways to weave lyrics into its live show. Over the weekend, Galactic invited a number of vocalists onto the stage during its two-set performance at New Yorks Irving Plaza. On Friday, the group invited opening out Lyrics Born and his crew onstage for two songs at the end of its first set: Shake it Off and Pack Up. During the groups second set, RANAs Scott Metzger, who appeared with the group during its last Irving Plaza visit, also joined the group for an instrumental interlude, before yielding to Lyrics Born for Change my Mind.
A night later, Galactics collaborations continued. First, JJ Grey, who quickly moved downtown after MOFRO opened for Derek Trucks at New Yorks Town Hall, joined Galactic at the end of its first for a cover of the Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil. Deep into Galactics second set, Living Colours Cory Glover emerged for Whole Lotta Love, before New Orleans guitarist Alex McMurray appeared on Blues For Ben. Grey later returned for the groups first encore, Tupelo Honey. Galactics Ten Year Invasion outing continues tonight at Charlottesville, VAs Starr Hill Music Hall.
