Since Soul Coughing first opened for his band in the mid-1990s, Dave Matthews has been an avid Mike Doughty supporter, even personally signing the guitarist to his own ATO label. On Saturday, Matthews also offered the Mike Doughty Band a coveted opening spot at New Yorks Madison Square Garden, later inviting Doughty onstage with the DMB for the first time in nearly a decade. During Jimi Thing, Doughty revived a gag from his Soul Coughing days, joining Matthews for a vocal rap during the outro of Jimi Thing. Local pedal steel hero Robert Randolph also made a surprise visit with the DMB, performing on Smooth Rider and Louisiana Bayou.
Members of Soulives extended family were also spotted onstage with the Dave Matthews Band on several occasions throughout the weekend. On Friday, Eric Krasno joined the band at Madison Square Garden for All Along the Watchtower, while Soulive trumpeter Rashwan Ross appeared with the group for the majority of its two-night MSG run. As previously reported, Ross has supported the Dave Matthews Band for almost its entire tour which continues in Manchester, NH tonight.

In other Krasno news , the guitarist has announced that he will perform at South Norwalk, CTs The Loft on New Years Eve with his own band. The Eric Krasno Band featuring Adam Deitch, Erick Coomes, Ryan Zoidis and other special guests will perform two-sets at the Connecticut hot spot deep into the night.
