On the heels of _Taught to be Proud_s release, Tea Leaf Green spent New Years Eve close to home at San Franciscos Independent, with longtime friend Samantha Stollenwerck supplying opening duties. The group began the evening with an off-off-Broadway gag, placing an egg shaped prop on stage. As Franz Hanzerbeak began, the egg illuminated, showing a beak’s silhouette. Soon after, the beak began to break through the egg, and each band member emerged, taking to their instruments until the entire group was onstage.

At the start of its second set, Tea Leaf Green rang in 2006 with a cover of Rod Stewarts Do Ya Think I’m Sexy before sliding into Kali-Yuga. Throughout its second set, Tea Leaf Green nodded to Auld Lang Syne, also inviting a Gorilla costume-clad character onstage to throw biscuits into the audience (feel free to insert your own Disco Biscuits pun here). As previously reported, Tea Leaf Green will perform next at the Fillmore as part of Bill Graham’s 75th Birthday Bash, alongside a number of its Bay Area brethren.
