On Friday, after performing as part of Paul Kantners Jefferson Family Galactic Reunion tour, former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten hosted a hosted a guest-laden jam session of his own at New Yorks BB King Blues Club . In addition to Constanten, the Dead-themed revue featured a number of notable Bay Area veterans include Prairie Prince (The Tubes), Slick Aguilar (Jefferson Starship), Chris Smith (Jefferson Starship), David Freiberg (Quicksilver), and Linda Imperial & Diana Mangano (Jefferson Starship). The Zen Tricksters duo of Jeff Mattson and Klyph Black, who collaborated with Constanten at a Rex Foundation benefit in November, also joined the keyboardist for his entire set, which was tied together with an extended version of Dark Star. Well after midnight, Country Joe McDonald and David Bennett Cohen (Country Joe & the Fish) also joined the all-star collective onstage for a version of their own Save the Whales.
