Last week, a number of New Orleans mainstays traveled across Colorado before converging at Denvers Fillmore Auditorium for a Galactic performance Saturday.
Beginning with a guest-laden version of Mardi Gras anthem Iko Iko, Galactic weaved a ministry of Big Easy musicians into its set including Leo Nocentelli, the Wild Magnolias, Tricia ‘Sista Teedy’ Boutte, Rebirth Brass Band and Bionic Brown.
Over the course of the night, the group also nodded to a number of New Orleans outfits ranging from the Meters (Funky Miracle) to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band (It Aint What You Think), as well as Led Zeppelin (Whole Lotta Love). The evening then culminated with almost all of Galactics returning to the stage for an all-star version of the Professor Longhair-staple Big Chief.
Galactics Coup De Gras tour will continue tonight at Oklahoma Citys Farmers Public Market. The group has also announced that Tricia ‘Sista Teedy’ Boutte serve as a guest vocalist until its February 25 homecoming performance at Tipitinas
