In the much-belated-but-nonetheless-notable-news-realm, last weekend, Perpetual Groove anchored Santa Rosa’s Mid Winter Night’s Dream, a multi-media event, which also featured performances by a number of well-known Bay Arena players. In total, the night offered over seven hours of music, beginning with a set by the Mid Winter All-Stars (featuring Martin Fierro, ALO’s Dan Lebowitz and Steve Adams, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universes’ Brian Jordan, Inkx Herman, Jordan Feinstein and DJ Motion Potion). For their debut performance the All-Stars mixed festive covers like ‘Cissy Strut,’ with originals including Lebowitz’s ‘ Sneekin A Peak and Try’ and ‘Sneaking Sally through the Alley.’ Up next, DJ Motion Potion offered a tweener set featuring jam-staples like Phish’s ‘First Tube.’ For its main attraction, Perpetual Groove opened with Lionel Richie’s ‘All Night Long,’ before offering a string of original compositions. During its second set, P Groove brought the entire evening’s cast onstage for a continuous 4-hour jam session highlighted by Sublime’s ‘Summertime’ and ALO’s ‘The Gardener.’ Each of the evening’s entertainers, as well as the guest duo of Garaj Mahal’s Alan Hertz and Eric Levy, returned to the stage for a show closing version of ‘Get Down on it.’ Perpetual Groove will perform tomorrow at Oxford, MS’s Proud Larry’s. In addition, as we reported last week, on March 17 and 18 Perpetual Groove will record its first live release over two nights at Treesound Studios in Atlanta, GA.
