Galactic drummer Stanton Moore will occupy the days leading up to the bands Coup de Gras Midwest Tour with a five show southern run featuring a new collective. The Stanton Moore Trio also will include Will Bernard on guitar and Dr. Lonnie Smith on organ. Bernard has gigged with Peter Apfelbaum’s Hieroglyphics Ensemble, T.J. Kirk, Motherbug/Otherbug and Robert Walter over the years. Smith (who bestowed the title of Dr. upon himself) first rose to prominence in the late 60s for his work on the Hammond B3 Organ and his collaborators have included George Benson, Lou Donaldson, Lee Morgan, David ‘Fathead’ Newman and many others. The Stanton Moore Trio will appear at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte on March 23 and then travel to Asheville, Raleigh, Charleston and Athens. Moore also will perform in his hometown of New Orleans this Saturday, with a different collection of players.
