Two of the downtown New York jazz-scene’s most respected percussionists will team up for a one-off performance tomorrow. Billy Martin and Cyro Baptista will perform an evening of percussion-based music at Brooklyn’s Issue Project Room, which Martin promises will feature ‘sound-scapes and rhythms-exotique.’ As of late, Martin has been instructing classes at the Project Room, focusing on creative rhythmic interplay and collective improvising based on his miniature percussion compositions for bamboo and woodblocks. Martin’s final class (this term) will be offered from 3-4:15 PM March 18.
