We’re back from a weekend of April Fool’s news with an update from the Wakarusa camp. The Flaming Lips has signed on as one of the festival’s headliners, joining a bill which already includes Gov’t Mule, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, STS9, the Disco Biscuits and Yonder Mountain String Band. In addition, Wakarusa will host a series of pre-parties starting June 5 at Lawrence, KS’ The Bottleneck. Alfred Howard & the K23 Orchestra, Groovatron, HoneyTribe featuring Devon Allman, Truckstop Honeymoon and Deep Fried Pickle Project are among the artists scheduled to perform. In other Flaming Lips news, on Friday the trio officially kicked off its At War with the Mystics-era at New York’s Webster Hall. In addition to a few cuts from its new album, the Flaming Lips debuted a series of new onstage toys including an iPod-powered guitar. The always theatrical group has also apparently changed its wardrobe, trading in its animal costumes for closet full of leaner Santa suits and alien masks. The Flaming Lips will perform tomorrow at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre.
