Warren and Weir
Over the weekend, Bob Weir and RatDog closed out its spring tour with a series of performances at New Yorks Beacon Theater. On Friday, RatDog brought out a number of notable New York musicians, including drummer Tom Hope and Groove Collective trombonist Josh Roseman, on several selections including Scarlet Begonias and Iko Iko. Later Warren Haynes, who one day may retire the record for more Beacon Theater appearances than any other artist, also joined his former Dead bandmate onstage for both The Eleven and Touch of Grey during RatDogs second set. On Saturday, keyboardist John Ginty also sat in with RatDog on Sugaree, Dark Star, Bird Song and One More Saturday Night.
After their performance at the Beacon Friday, Roseman and RatDogs Kenny Brooks, Jay Lane, Jeff Chimenti and Mark Karan ventured downtown to perform with Ginty and his band at the Ace of Clubs. In addition to Dead-staples like Bird Song and Dark Star, the RatDog quartet also performed on selections by the Beatles, and Derek and the Dominoes, among others. RatDogs next scheduled appearance is May 20 at Berkeley, CAs Community Theater as part of Wavy Gravys Birthday celebration.
