Gov’t Mule came within striking distance of its New York home base last night, performing at Sayreville, NJ’s Starland Ballroom. While in the New York-area, Warren Haynes invited a number of his Tri-state area friends down to the former Hunka Bunka Ballroom, including Late Night with Conan O’Brien guitarist Jimmy Vivino who performed on ’32-20 Blues’ at the end of Gov’t Mule’s first set. During Gov’t Mule’s second set, P-Funk/Talking Heads’ keyboardist Bernie Worrell also appeared on a cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Lively Up Yourself.’ Later, both Vivino and Worrell returned during Gov’t Mule’s encore for covers of ‘Crossroads’ and That’s What Love Will Make You Do,’ with Vinino’s bandmates James Wormworth and Felix Cabrer also joining the fray.
