Over the weekend, the city of Philadelphia hosted its annual Jam on the River on the edge of the Delaware River at Penns Landings Great Plaza. For the fourth year in a row, the Disco Biscuits performed, headlining a stacked bill which also included sets by WEEN, the Secret Machines, Railroad Earth, the New Deal, the Duo and JamOff-winners Blue Method. Adding a late-night element to the weekends festivities, the nearby Electric Factory also hosted a series of post-shows featuring Dark Star Orchestra (Friday) and an encore set by the Disco Biscuits (Saturday). During the Disco Biscuits Sunday set, RANA/Particle guitarist Scott Metzger emerged for a version of the Whos Pinball Wizard. Though Sundays show marked Metzgers first appearance with the Disco Biscuits, New York-based guitarist often performs with the Disco Biscuits Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner in off-season side-projects like Flying Circus.
On Saturday, the Quagmire Swim Team also performed a post-Disco Biscuits show at Cavanaughs River Deck on Penns Landing. During the emerging jambands set, former Disco Biscuits drummer Sam Altman made his first public appearance since Camp Bisco, playing drums on Million Years of Pain alongside guest percussionist Adam Powell. As previously reported, Altman left the Disco Biscuits in August to pursue a career in medicine. Though all of Altmans former band mates were in attendance—-and rumored to be performing later in the night—-the venues owners abruptly, and without explanation, pulled the plug in favor of a DJ spun version of Michael Jacksons Billie Jean (eerily recalling Phishs ill-fated first gig in 1983).
