Last night at the Jones Beach Amphitheater in Wantagh, NY, the legendary Roy Haynes returned to the stage with the Allman Brothers Band. This past March, the eighty-two year old drummer surprised the Beacon Theater audience one Saturday evening by appearing on drums for a version of Afro Blue (a song he performed with John Coltrane on multiple occasions). At Jones Beach, Haynes did so once again, while ABB drummer Butch Trucks stepped aside to watch him command the kit. The Brothers are off until Fridays appearance at the House Of Blues in Atlantic City.
