On both Friday and Saturday, the String Cheese Incident and Ratdog used their co-bill as a forum for collaboration. First, String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang sat in with RatDog during a jam sandwiched between ‘Big Railroad Blues’ and ‘The Other One’ at Kansas City, MO’s Starlight Theatre Friday. Then, during, String Cheese Incident’s set at St. Louis, MO’s Fox Theatre Saturday, Bob Weir, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, guitarist Mark Karan, and saxophonist Kenny Brooks sat-in on a version of the Grateful Dead’s ‘Friend of the Devil.’ The same night, RatDog also invited out trumpeter Jim Rossi and saxophonist Stewart Williams for the majority of its set. Both Rossi and Williams clocked in time with the recently deceased Johnnie ‘Johnny B Goode’ Johnson, a veteran of the St. Louis music scene who performed with Chuck Berry and RatDog.
