Last night at the Century Room in Toronto, Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento and Joe Russo took the stage for three classic covers. The quartet was backed by the local group Grooveyard which features Michael Occhipinti (who won Canadas National Jazz Award for Guitarist of the Year in 2002, and has garnered six Juno Award nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album). GRAB and Grooveyard performed versions of Steve Wonders Boogie On ‘Reggae Woman,’ Led Zeppelins The Ocean Song and James Browns ‘Get Up I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine.’ GRAB may well revisit this material (although it is unlikely) tonight at Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre.
