Just five months after joining the band, guitarist Scott Metzger has officially left Particle . A longtime veteran of New Yorks rock and jam scenes, Metzger joined Particle in February, sharing guitar duties with fellow newcomer Ben Combe. During his brief tenure with the quintet, Metzger brought a number of his own songs (Smile, Ghetto Queen) to Particles repertoire and appears on the groups latest DVD/CD set, Particle: Transformations.

In a public statement, Particle said, Last week, Scott received unfortunate news of an unforeseen family emergency that requires his long term attention. The combination of Particle’s rigorous touring schedule, west coast rehearsals, and upcoming studio projects make it impossible for Scott to commit to both the band and his east coast family. Health and family always come first to us. Although we will miss him in the band, we respect his decision and wish both him and his family the best. Metzger continues, This was not an easy decision for me to make. I lost sleep numerous nights over this, but have come to the conclusion that this is the best move for me and my family. The last six months have offered great opportunities and experiences that I’ll hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. I want to make it very clear that there is absolutely no ill will between me and the band who I now consider lifelong friends. I wish Particle and their extended family nothing but the best.
While Particle will tour as a quartet for the time being, the group has not ruled out the possibility of adding an additional player. On August 28, Metzger will perform with Bustle in Your Hedgerow aboard New Yorks Rocks Off Boat Cruise, while Particle will return to the road on July 26 for a performance at Columbus, OHs Little Brothers.
