Over the weekend, approximately 10,000 fans attended Floyd, VAs annual FloydFest. As is tradition, a number of intriguing collaborations transpired throughout the festivals seven stages. On Friday, Tim OBrien joined Drew Emmitt and his band during their set, while members of Donna the Buffalo sat in with Balfa Toufours on Saturday. In the festivals world beat corner, Afrobeat poet Ikwunga joined the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble in the Global Village for a late night set. A sacred steel mash-up also occurred in the Dance Tent, where the Lee Boys and Campbell Brothers mixed and matched their line-ups throughout the night. On Sunday, David Bromberg welcomed several guests to his intimate performance on the Workshop Porch, while Donna the Buffalos Tara Nevins joined a jam session featuring Southern Routes, Dirk Powell and Balfa Toujours. Other weekend highlights included Jake Shimabukuros solo ukulele set and Los Lobos high-profile spot, which featured such covers as La Bamba, Bertha and Cinnamon Girl. At a post-party after the evenings final note, members of Toubab Krewe and the Lee Boys, as well as festival organizer and part-time drummer Kris Hodges, entertained the staff, extending the weekends festivities into Monday morning.
