Following Widespread Panics performance at Radio City Music Hall Friday, a number of musicians participated in a benefit for Col. Bruce Hampton at New Yorks Knitting Factory. In the spring of 2006 Hampton had angioplasty on several coronary arteries. The Colonels doctors say the operation was text book and a complete success, yet his surgery coupled with the medications and the lifestyle changes dictated by his doctors have forced him off the road for the first time in forty-four years.
Fridays multi-band bill featured a number of Hamptons oldest associates, including The Codetalkers, The Campbell Brothers, Ike Stubblefield, Steve Cunningham and Aquarium Rescue Unit drummer Jeff Sipe. After Widespread Panics performance wrapped-up,
Jimmy Herring also came by and sat in on several songs. In addition, an auction was held for a number of items, including Hamptons ‘s original artwork. To learn more about Hamptons condition, or to donate , please visit http://www.bratoganibe.com/index.html
