In their formative years, emerging southern jam favorites Perpetual Groove and Moonshine Still shared the stage regularly, offering collaborative events affectionately referred to as ‘Moongrooves.’ For the first time in over three years, on Friday the longtime friends offered a Moongroove spot at Troy, NY’s Revolution Hall. Moonshine Still played first, offering a choice cover of the Cars’ ‘The Moving in Stereo’ during its performance. The group’s set segued into a full Moongroove set, at which point every member of both bands and members of their crew filtered onto the stage for an extended improvisation. Perpetual Groove then used ‘BobbleHead’ as a bridge into its performance, which properly kicked off with ‘Speed Queen.’ Members of Moonshine Still returned periodically throughout the night, performing on ‘Macumba’ and a show closing ‘Funkytown.’
Perpetual Groove will appear tonight at Falls Church, VA’s The State Theatre, while Moonshine Still will play Greenville, SC’s Gottrocks Friday. The two bands will appear together again at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO on Wednesday October 11th.
