Andrea Alexander is a much loved part of the Atlanta music community and that community has rallied around her in her time of need. Alexander has developed thyroid cancer and this coming Saturday and Sunday at Decatur, GA’s Club 29 there will be two concerts to help her raise money for a Light Beam Generator. This Generator, which she currently cannot afford, is the only efficient way to treat her debilitating cancer.
Tomorrows performance will feature Michael Tolcher, Space Medicine, and the GOA Dance Party. Sunday’s event will boast performances from Donna Hopkins Band, Georgia Reggae gurus The Natti Love Joys, and Ralph Roddenbery Band. There will also be an auction held with many items up for bid, including a personalized, custom made live CD made by Ralph Roddenbery consisting of songs chosen by the highest bidder. Money raised at these events will go toward Andreas special treatment.

Matthew Barbaro, guitarist for the Temple of Awareness (formerly of Drama and Astral Swing), has been working hard on this event. Barbaro will sit in with the Roddenbery Band and some of the other acts performing this weekend. Everyone’s lives have enough aspects to keep us feverishly attentive to our own needs. He says, To break out of that routine and lend energy to those in greater or equal need is not an opportunity most people jump at. I personally am terrified of others’ suffering. Helplessness is the last emotion I care to experience. Most people project that confused helpless inner feeling onto a situation as we view it from afar and choose not to engage. Once we do engage however, and offer our light to the collective healing flame, our contribution begins creating itself in ways we couldn’t have known we could help . Reporting by Rob Turner
