Last night at BB King’s in New York City, the Stony Awards honored movies and film from the past year. Hip-hop artist Redman and stand-up comedian Doug Benson handled the hosting duties and performed as well. Director Richard Linklater accepted his Best Movie Award (a hand-blown glass bong) for A Scanner Darkly via a taped message, while Weeds creator Jenji Kohan was on hand to receive the award for Best TV Series. Mary Louise-Parker also offered her thanks via satellite for her Best Actress nod (Weeds) while fellow cast member Justin Kirk was there in person. Other honorees included Wetlands Preserved: The Story of An Activist Rock (directed by site editor Dean Budnick) for Best Unreleased Film, a/k/a Tommy Chong for best documentary and Dreadheads: Portrait of a Subculture for best Stoner DVD. Jeff The Dude Dowd received an award for Stony Achievement while a masturbating bear and other members of Conan OBriens rogues gallery accepted via videotape for best Late Night Talk Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
