Susan Tedeschi and her husband Derek Trucks performed a series of co-billed shows over the past few days with their respective groups. As one might anticipate, the couple also made multiple appearances with each others band. Less expected however was the contribution from the Persuasions, who joined both artists this past Saturday at the Nokia Theater in New York City. The legendary a cappella group first stepped up towards the end of Tedeschis set for a version of Lord Protect My Child. They were followed by Trucks, who added his guitar to The Feeling Music Brings (just as does on the Wait For Me release). Tedeschi returned the favor halfway through the DTB performance as Trucks bandmates stepped aside to allow the pair to perform Walkin’ Blues as a duo. Tedeschi remained for the remainder of set and the two encores, which included: Anyday, Sugaree, Gonna Move, Feel So Bad and The Weight. In addition, the Persuasions returned and contributed vocals to Sugaree and Gonna Move, while Ron Holloway added sax to the final four selections. The co-bill continues on Wednesday in Louisville at the Brown Theater at Kentucky Center for the Arts.
