Last evening at New York City’s Tonic, Marco Benevento continued his November residency. Whereas the first two weeks featured him in a group setting, much of last nights show presented Benevento by himself along with a range of keyboard accoutrements. Benevento opened on electric piano with a cover of Pink Floyds ‘Fearless’ and then moved through a range of covers, drawing on material from Leonard Cohen, Thelonious Monk and others. A bit later RANA guitarist Scott Metzger stepped up for a few songs, including a version of the Benevento/Russo Duos Abduction Pose and a take on Prince’s ‘Pop Life. Next week Benevento will be joined by Duo drummer Joe Russo along with Bobby Previte, Mike Dillon for two shows at 8PM and 10PM, before closing things out on the 29th with Matt Chamberlain and Reed Mathis.
