The nominations for the 49th Grammy Awards have been released, and they include a number of artists that we have featured here at the site. The Best Pop Instrumental Performance nominees include both B Fleck & The Flecktones (Subterfuge) and Bruce Hornsby (Song H) along with George Benson & Al Jarreau (Mornin’), Enya (Drifting) and The Brian Setzer Orchestra (My Favorite Things). The Grammy-friendly Flecktones also were nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album (_The Hidden Land_ along with Groove Collective (_People People Music Music_). Meanwhile, Peter Frampton is up for Best Pop Instrumental Album (_Fingerprints_) and Best Rock Instrumental Performance (Black Hole Sun), while Casey Driessen has been nominated for Best Country Instrumental Performance (Jerusalem Ridge), Jim Lauderdale is competing for Best Bluegrass Album (for the aptly titled Bluegrass), Susan Tedeschi was named in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category (Hope And Desire) and Matisyahus _Youth _ is in the mix for Best Reggae Album. The Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance is another interesting race as it pits Beck (Nausea) against Bob Dylan (Someday Baby), John Mayer (Route 66), Tom Petty (Saving Grace) and Neil Young (Lookin’ For A Leader). The Grammys will take place on February 11.
