Both some planned and some unplanned theatrics ensued during the Midwest leg of Govt Mules fall tour this weekend. On Friday Govt Mule celebrated the penultimate night of its tour with Donavon Frankenreiter at St. Louis, MOs The Pageant by weaving members of the singer/songwriters band into its set throughout the night. First, Donavon Frankenreiter Band drummer Craig Barnette appeared on a percussion segment sandwiched between Streamline Woman and Brighter Days. Next, Frankenreiter, Barnette, and keyboardist Eric Brigmond appeared with Govt Mule on Spanish Moon during the groups encore. Finally, Frankenreiter bassist Matt Grundy emerged, while Govt Mules Andy Hess switched to keyboards, and later percussion, for a version of That’s What Love Will Make You Do.

On Saturday Govt Mule appeared at Chicago, ILs The Riviera where the power went out during Gameface. The Mule rallied on, however, with all four members of group engaging in an extended drum jam. After the venues power returned, the group finished Gameface and completed its set. Haynes will host his annual Christmas Jam in Ashville, NC this Saturday.
