Last night saxophonist Bill Evans, mandolin player Sam Bush, bassist Richard Bona, drummer Dave Weckl, banjoist Tony Trischka, and fiddler Christian Howes performed a set of bluegrass and jazz under the Soulgrass moniker at New Yorks Blue Note. The musicians, who appear on Evans Grammy nominated Soulgrass CD, will perform at the Blue Note at 8 and 10:30 PM tonight through Sunday. ‘I’ve been an Americana fan ever since my Miles [Davis] days, Evans says of the band. I liked the sound of mandolin, banjo, dobro and fiddle and I thought that music had a very cool rhythmic approach.’
