Galactic previewed the hip-hop oriented sound it will explore on its forthcoming studio album at New Yorks Irving Plaza over the weekend. On Friday the group brought out MC J-Live for Doublewide and Rocks are Red, as well as D-Story for Bongo the Dog. In addition, Skerik lent some extra saxophone might to a number of songs throughout the evening, including Bakers Dozen and Licorice. Papa Mali, who has been on the road with Galactic for much of the winter, offered an acoustic tweener set with the aid of Galactic guitarist Jeff Raines and latter sat in for Jump into the Fire and Herciulies. Saturdays festivities featured a number of additional performers as well, including Papa Mali and Reggie Watts. After the show, Skerik and Papi Mali joined Cheme Gastelum and his Conundrum (which features the Dap Kings Al Street, Greyboy Allstars Eric Kalb, and the Greyhounds Anthony Farrell) at post-show gig at Cafe Ville.
