In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Maple Leaf Bar vowed to host the citys first concert. While there is some debate as to the locale of the New Orleans first post-Katrina show, the Maple Leaf may well take the honors, as before electricity had been restored to most of the city, the venue hosted music by diesel generator. One early gig featured the Meters George Porter Jr., whose show ultimately was shutdown after breaking curfew. As the city returns to its former glory, Porter gigs on and continues to perform at the Maple Leaf with a revolving Trio. Porter will perform at the club on March 29 with a series of special guests. In the interim he is back on the road with both the funky Meters and PBS, as both groups have Colorado shows over the next two weeks.
