The Dave Matthews Bands recent two-night run at Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena featured a surprising number of covers and rarities from the groups club days. The gig seems to have resonated with both the band and its crew, who have selected the pair of March shows as the ninth installment in its experimental concert series Live Trax 9. The four disc set will document the groups Las Vegas run in its entirety, including covers of Daniel Lanois The Maker, Neil Youngs Down By The River, the Zombies Time Of The Season and Neil Diamonds Sweet Caroline, as well as a tease of Lanois’ Still Water during Don’t Drink The Water. Live Trax 9 also includes the groups first version of I’ll Back You Up since 2004 and features Soulive trumpeter Rashawn Ross throughout. In other DMB news, Boyd Tinsley recently played a benefit for Presidential hopeful John Edwards with guitarist Joe Lawlor and The Funky Daddies. In addition to his own True Reflections, the fiddler offered versions of Scarlet Begonias and What’s Going On?, among other numbers. Matthews will perform with Tim Reynolds this Friday at Bostons Wang Theatre.
