In related news, Rock the Earth has announced the winners of its 2007 Planet Defender Awards. The Barenaked Ladies have taken top honors in the Artist category for its efforts to offset all the energy used at each show with wind power and its efforts to use compostable materials backstage. On their recent tour BNL partnered with Adam Gardner (Guster)s Reverb environmental action group and fueled its tour buses and trucks with biodiesel materials. Environmental activist/author Dr. Carl Safina was also chosen as the Planet Defender Awards Community Leader winner, while schoolteacher and local activist Karen Dolan was honored in the Grassroots Activist category.
