Garrettsville, OHs Nelson Ledges Quarry Park helped kick off festival season this weekend by hosting the Earlybird Fest, which featured the Zen Tricksters, One Under, and the Fareed Haque Group, among others. During the Zen Tricksters set Friday, Haque and tabla maestro Salar Nader emerged for a number of songs, including a sandwich featuring the Grateful Deads Birdsong, the Tricksters Light of Life, and a Birdsong reprise. Later in the Zen Tricksters set, Nader offered a drum/tabla duet with Zen Tricksters percussionist Dave Diamond. Finally, Haque and Nader joined the Zen Tricksters for their encore of the Beatles I Want You (Shes So Heavy). The Zen Tricksters are currently working in the studio to complete the first Donna Jean & the Tricksters album. The disc is due out this fall.
