Widespread Panic closed its multi-night hometown run at Athens The Classic Center last night with the aid of some old friends. Near the end of the groups first set longtime Widespread Panic producer/sideman John Keane emerged for some pedal steel work on This Part of Town. Keane remained onstage for the rest on the groups set, which saw Vic Chesnutt lead Widespread Panic through his own Aunt Avis (which Widespread Panic recorded on 1997s _ Bombs & Butterflies_) and a Protein Drink/Sewing Machine package (a pairing documented on the Widespread Panic/Chesnutt Brute album _ Nine High A Pallet_). Widespread Panics tour will continue tomorrow at Orange Beach, ALs The Wharf.
