In what may well be a sign of things to come, an individual artist, David Grisman, has joined the list of major media companies suing YouTube. The

veteran mandolin player, and longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator, filed a complaint in a San Francisco federal court on May 10 charging an abuse of
copyright. Grisman asserted that YouTube has a ‘massive arsenal of misappropriated copyrighted material’ and a ‘deliberate strategy’ to
encourage copyright infringement. This legal action would appear to put him at odds with longtime Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow, who has been
representing YouTube’s interests both in court and on programs like The Colbert Report.
