The spring edition of ekoostik hookahs bi-annual, Thornville, OH-based Hookahville festival doubled as a celebration for the release of its new album, Under Full Sail: It All Comes Together, which mixes traditional new studio cuts, live in the studio recordings, interviews and videos with a complete rereading of the groups classic debut, Under Full Sail. As is their custom, the members of ekoostik hookah offered a number of surprising covers during their encore Saturday night, including a complete version of the Beatles Abbey Road medley, CSNYs Love the One You’re With, Spinal Taps Big Bottom and Joe Walsh’s All Night Long. The group also brought out Hot Buttered Rum on Friday for Sun Goes Down and John Henry, the former of which featured a particularly notable solo by banjo player Erik Yates. In addition, saxophonist Joe Crump, of ekoostik hookah family-band Katz-n-Jammers, and longtime hookah associate Chris Young appeared on Dumpster on Saturday, while Katz-n-Jammers vocalists Judy Russell and Daniel Katz appeared on the groups abovementioned Beatles medley. Both ekoostik hookah and fellow festival performer Tea Leaf Green also brought out a sitar player named Stephan Mik who added some eastern flavor to Sheepdog during hookahs headlining spit and 5000 Acres and Morning Sun during Tea Leaf Greens show. ekoostik hookah will play next at Eureka CAs The Red Fox Tavern on June 15.
