With the Summer of Loves 40th anniversary looming, a number of San Francisco stalwarts will team-up for a show in Golden Gate Park on September 2. The free event will take place between 10 AM and 6 PM at the historic Golden Gate Park in Speedway Meadows, featuring performances by Michael McClure, the Doors Ray Manzarek, Canned Heat, Country Joe McDonald, Sons of Champlin, Nick Gravenite, The Charlatans, Barry Melton, Taj Mahal, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Brian Auger, the Animals Eric Burdon, Dan Hicks, Great Society and David LaFlamme. A webcast of the event will be streamed throughout the day at the Apple QuicktimeTM website.

The organization securing the permit, the non-profit Council of Light, includes members of the original Family Dog, original Grateful Dead management, radio programmers and Summer of Love poster artists, among others. ‘Musicians from across the country will be joining us where it all began, Ground Zero, in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, to celebrate the Summer of Love 40th Anniversary,’ says Boots Hughston, former Family Dog partner, longtime Chet Helms associate and Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Concert Producer. ‘The response from the musicians and the community has been very positive and overwhelming. We are looking forward to a very special event on September 2nd and encourage everyone to come and participate.’
