While the Disco Biscuits and Umphreys McGees co-headlining D.U.M.B. tour was at first surprisingly short on collaborations, this weekend the longtime friends most certainly made up for lost time. On Saturday, the Disco Biscuits played first at Atlantas Masquerade Music Park and brought out Umphreys McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss for a cover of Guns N Roses November Rain. Umphreys McGee played next and returned the
favor by inviting out Disco Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner for one of its ‘Jimmy Stewart’ improvisational segments. Next up, the groups shared their encore, with the Disco Biscuits starting things out by offering a version of Helicopters before, one by one, the group was replaced by Umphrey’s McGee who segued into Miss Tinkle’s Overture. Later in the evening, Perpetual Groove played the venues indoor stage and brought out Magner and Disco Biscuits drummer Allen Aucoin for Tribute to Freddy Prince Jr. Soon after, the group also invited out Umphreys McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins for Pepper.
After winning a poker tournament backstage, the Disco Biscuits were awarded headlining duties for the final night of the D.U.M.B. tours southern leg at Floridas Pompano Beach Amphitheatre. After the Disco Biscuits closed its set with a version of Kitchen Mitts, Umphreys McGee took the stage to play Mulche’s Odyssey. Like the night before, the song turned into a full band segue, with the Disco Biscuits slowly emerging to play Morph Dusseldorf. The Disco Biscuits will appear at Quincy, CAs High Sierra this Saturday, while Umphreys McGee will spend July 4th at Michigans Muskegon Summer Celebration.
