Charlie Hunter spent the past weekend in Rio De Janeiro, performing in a quintet with celebrated Brazilian sax player, Leo Gandelman. However, starting this Thursday Hunter will be back in the U.S. for a series of dates with his own trio, which also features drummer Simon Lott and Erik Deutsch on keyboards. These shows will help commemorate the release of the bands new recording, Mistico, in which the three interpret nine of Hunter’s compositions. The first of these dates will take place on Thursday August 2 in Saratoga, CA at the Montalvo Arts Center on a bill with Lee Scratch Perry with Dub Is a Weapon. The August shows also include four nights at Seattles Jazz Alley from August 9-12.
