The Allman Brothers Band played Wantagh, NYs Jones Beach night they got word about Jerry Garcias passing and for the next few years used a portion of his Franklin’s Tower as the introduction to Dickey Betts Blue Sky. While that number fell out of regular rotation after Betts ugly split with the Allman Brothers, the group did introduce a full version of Frankins Tower in 2000 when Jimmy Herring toured in Betts place. Since then the number has popped up on occasion with Oteil Burbridge taking command of the songs vocals. Last night, to the mark what would have been Garcias 65th birthday, the Allman Brothers Band played Franklins Tower once again at Rama, Ontarios Casino Rama. The Allman Brothers Band will appear next at Gilford, NHs Meadowbrook Farm this Friday.
