Though the Zen Tricksters have built a large canon of original material over the past two decades, the groups roots remain firmly planted in the Grateful Dead universe. Last night, to mark Jerry Garcias birthday, the veteran group played its annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash at New Yorks BB King Blues Club. Fittingly, the show focused on Garcias compositions from throughout the years, from a show opening Shakedown Street to Eyes of the World to a touching Hes Gone. The Zen Tricksters also offered Bob Weirs Weather Report Suite, Phil Leshs Box of Rain and New Potato Caboose and some of the Deads favorite covers, including I Know You Rider and Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad. The members of the group will play as Donna Jean & the Tricksters at Black River Falls, WIs Grateful Garcia Gathering Camp this weekend.
