The Bands Levon Helm will release his first studio album in over ten years on October 30. The disc, Dirt Farmer, features a number of the musicians who have backed Helm during his recent performances, including guitarist/fiddler Larry Campbell, Campbells wife Teresa, pianist Brian Mitchell, bassist Byron Isaacs, organist Glenn Patscha and Helms daughter Amy, who has made a name for herself playing in the band Ollabelle. Dirt Farmer explores the music Levon learned as a boy in Arkansas and features a mix of covers like the traditional Little Birds, the Stanley Brothers False Hearted Lover Blues, Paul Kennerleys A Train Robbery and Buddy and Julie Millers Wide River To Cross. The Millers also contribute backing vocals to a take on Steve Earles The Mountain. Helms Midnight Ramble Sessions continue this Saturday.
