As previously reported, while on vacation last Friday Mike Gordon, Steve Kimock and area resident Bill Kreutzmann played an informal gig on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The trio, who toured together in 2006 as part of the Rhythm Devils, dipped into both the Grateful Dead songbook (Cumberland Blues, The Other One and US Blues’) and Gordons solo canon (Car Carrier Blues, Weekly Time and Foundation), with Gordon supplying vocals throughout the night. In addition, the ad hoc group ran through an extremely eclectic mix of cover songs, including The Polices So Lonely, Van Morrisons Into The Mystic, Taj Mahals She Caught The Katy, Sam Cookes Bring It On Home, the Bobby Blue Blands version of Goin Down Slow, Hank Williams Lost Highway, Princes Alphabet Street, Los Lobos I Got Loaded, Toots and the Maytals Pressure Drop, Townes Van Zandts White Freightliner, Jim Reeves Lookin’ at the World Through a Windshield, The Meters Just Kissed My Baby and the Rolling Stones No Expectations, among others. At present, Gordon and Kreutzmann have no confirmed appearances, while Kimock will play with Banyan at San Franciscos 12 Galaxies on September 28.
