As previously reported, Galactic is taking a number of MCs on the road this fall in support of its new studio disc, From the Corner to the Block. This past weekend the group performed at Charleston, SC’s Chazz Fest, where both the Gift of Gab and Boots Riley were on hand to help Galactic interpret some of its more hip-hop oriented material. One of the group’s older friends, JJ Grey, was also onsite performing with MOFRO and took the stage to front Galactic on a handful of numbers, including his ‘Dirt Floor Cracka’,’ the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ and ‘Wildflower.’ In addition, the MOFRO horn section backed Galactic on ‘Dirtfloor Cracker,’ as well as ‘Black Talk.’ Earlier in the weekend, JJ Grey & MOFRO also brought out Tishamingo guitarist Jess Franklin for ‘Lochloosa’ while performing at Athens’ Georgia Theatre. Galactic will open its fall tour October 11 at Flagstaff, AZ’s Orpheum.
