Unbeknownst to most, the first guitarist to perform with The Police was actually a French musician by the name of Henry Padovani. Along with bassist Sting and drummer Stewart Copeland, Padovani co-founded The Police in 1977 and appears on the groups first single, ‘Fall Out’/‘Nothing Achieving.’ Later that year guitarist Andy Summers joined the young bands lineup and, after playing as a four piece outfit for a few months, forced Padovani out of the group before they achieved international fame. Padovani spent the next thirty years working behind the scenes in the music industry—-including a stint as Vice President of IRS Records—-until 2006, when he recorded a solo album that featured both Copeland and Sting. Finally, on Saturday, Padovani performed with the recently reunited trio onstage at Paris Stade Olympique. The guitarist emerged at the end of the night to play on a show closing version of ‘Next to You’ from The Polices debut album Outlandos d’Amour. The Police will appear at Turin, Italys Stadio Della Alpi tomorrow.
