For the third time this Fall, on Saturday Jon Fishman played drums with the traditionally percussionless Yonder Mountain String Band. The former Phish drummer joined Yonder at the tail end of its first set at Chicagos Congress Theater for Midwest Gospel Radio and Death Trip and later returned for the groups entire second set. Highlights included a set opening Steep Grade Sharp Curves, Talking Heads Girlfriend is Better and Bill Monroes Kentucky Mandolin, which also featured Chris Wood (who opened the evenings festivities with his brother Oliver). At the end of the night, Fishman returned one final time for a show closing version of Catch a Criminal. In addition, The Wood Brothers jammed with Yonder Mountain String Band Friday at Milwaukee, WIs The Rave on their Stealin and Ophelia and Sunday at Detroit, MIs St. Andrews Hall for their Angel Band and To Lay Me Down. Yonder Mountain String Band will perform Millvale, PAs Mr. Small’s Theatre tomorrow evening.
