On Wednesday The Whigs, who recently signed to Dave Matthews ATO Label, played a surprise warm-up show at Atlantas Tasty World before heading out on an extended tour with former Drive-By Truckers guitarist Jason Isbell. John Popper was in town for a performance the following night with Blues Traveler at Athens Georgia Theatre and, at the end of the night, inquired about sitting-in with the rising stars, but only had a harmonica in the key of A on him. As luck would have it, The Whigs previously selected encore, Need You, Need You, from their forthcoming disc Mission Control, happened to be just that key, so Popper took the stage to help the group close out the night. The Whigs will perform at Northampton, MAs Iron Horse tonight, while Blues Traveler will appear at Trenton, NJs Patriots Theater at the War Memorial.
