I’m Not There, the Todd Haynes film that depicts the life of Bob Dylan with a variety of actors portraying the bard (including Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Christian Bale) will open on November 21. Two weeks earlier, New York’s Beacon Theatre will host an all-star concert interpreting the music of the film which interprets the life of Dylan. Many of the artists who perform music in Im Not There will be on hand to participate, including: My Morning Jacket, Cat Power, Yo La Tengo with Buckwheat Zydeco, Gomez members Ian Ball and Olly Peacock, Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks, The Roots, Michelle Shocked & Jimmy LaFave, Calexico, J Mascis, Mason Jennings, John Doe, Al Kooper & Funky Faculty and Lee Ranaldo & the Million Dollar Bashers. Ranaldo’s group reportedly will include his Sonic Youth bandmate Steve Shelley, longtime Dylan bass player Tony Garnier, Tom Verlaine, John Medeski and Wilco guitarist Nels Cline.
