The North Mississippi Allstars will release their fifth studio record, Hernando, on January 22. The disc is the groups first release since 2005 Grammy-nominated Electric Blue Watermelon and the first on their own label, Sounds of the South Records. The discs name is taken from the town where the trio spent their formative years.
This is definitely our most focused record of original music that weve done, Luther Dickinson said in a statement. This records stands alonewe dont draw as much on our Hill Country roots. Were a blues rock band and set out to make a blues rock record.
The album was recorded by family patriarch Jim Dickinson and features 11 songs of mostly original material. In other NMA news, on Friday drummer Cody Dickinson sat-in with Rose Hill Drive at Chicagos Martyrs. While in town as part of the Solid Blues Tour, Dickinson stopped by the venue and played washboard on a little jam before the trio offered a cover of the Beatles Helter Skelter. The North Mississippi Allstars will appear at Mt. Clemens, MIs Macomb Center for Performing Arts this Tuesday.
